KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Netflix subscribers in Malaysia would now need to pay an additional RM13 monthly in order to share the service "outside their household”.

In a statement, the video streaming service said it will begin sending out emails to subscribers in Malaysia who are currently sharing Netflix outside their household in Malaysia.

"A Netflix account is for use by one household.

"Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,” it said in a brief statement posted on its website.

According to its Help Center, extra members have their own account and password, but their membership is paid for by the person who invited them to share their Netflix account.

A subscriber's plan also determines how many extra member slots they could add, with one extra member for standard plan subscription and two extra members for premium plan subscription.

Additional details on extra members can be accessed here.

Earlier this year, Netflix said more than 100 million households use its subscription streaming service without paying for their own accounts, which it said impacted its ability to invest in producing new content.
