GEORGE TOWN, April 27 — Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) will be meeting with its Umno counterpart next week to discuss seat allocations for the upcoming state polls, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.

He said Penang PH will be meeting in a few days’ time this week.

"We have received a request from Penang Umno to arrange a meeting,” he said in a press conference at his office.

He said they have fixed a tentative date to meet with Penang Umno leaders next week.

He said the meeting would only be with Umno, and not the other Barisan Nasional (BN) components, as the request for a meeting was only from Umno.

Penang PH is yet to discuss seat allocations with Penang BN although the state elections are expected to be held in July.

Last week, Chow said that Umno would be given the chance to defend their two state seats in Penang.

He said PH would defend its own seats while the sole seat held by the opposition is up for discussion.

Penang has a total of 40 state seats and in the 2018 general elections, PH won 37 seats, when Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia was still part of PH.

BN had two seats, Sungai Dua and Permatang Berangan, while PAS had one seat, Penaga.

After Bersatu left the PH coalition and two PKR assemblymen were fired from the party and later joined Bersatu, the four seats; Seberang Jaya, Sungai Acheh, Teluk Bahang and Bertam fell under Perikatan Nasional.

However, the four were evicted from the state legislative assembly in March after the legislative assembly approved a motion to force them to vacate their seats in accordance with the state’s anti-hopping law.
