JOHOR BARU, March 15 — A Johor state government representative today denied that he is involved in a dubious Shariah compliant investment scheme that is allegedly linked to the state administration.
Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said he believes that the investment scheme is a scam and cautioned the public that the state Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Human Resources Committee was not involved in any such initiatives.
The Larkin assemblyman added that his state service centre had nothing to do with the purported investment scheme.
"In addition to using my picture without permission, the irresponsible party had also used the federal government crest and the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) logo, both which is clearly not under my portfolio.
"It is hoped that with this explanation, the public will not be deceived and be cheated by this irresponsible party,” said Mohd Hairi in a Facebook post today.
He was responding to the unauthorised usage of his picture and position by certain irresponsible parties to promote a dubious Shariah compliant investment scheme on social media recently.
Checks showed that the scheme was similar to a ‘money game’ type of fraudulent investment scheme.
However, it cannot be determined if the incident was connected to Mohd Hairi’s bid to secure the Umno Youth vice chief’s post that he won with a three-vote majority over the weekend.
Mohd Hairi said a police report has been lodged to initiate an investigation into the irresponsible act.
Earlier, he explained that he had been alerted to the unauthorised use of his picture and his state government portfolio from a poster via his social media messages.
"Recently, I have been getting a lot of messages and inquiries through social media and messaging apps sending paid ads that use my picture on a ‘Shariah Compliant Investments’ poster,” he said.
