Johor floods: Police say no injuries reported in Felda Sungai Sayong landslide

JOHOR BARU, March 1 — A landslide occurred at Felda Sungai Sayong, Bukit Besar in Kota Tinggi early today following continuous heavy rain since yesterday morning.

Kota Tinggi District Police chief Supt Hussin Zamora said no injuries were reported in the 8.30am incident, which occurred behind the premises of four shop lots, thus affecting their structures.

"The premises are located about five metres from the slope area,” he said in a statement tonight.

He also warned the public not to play in the floodwaters and reminded parents to monitor safety and know the whereabouts of their children at all times.

"Motorists are also advised to always be careful when driving, especially at night, by obeying the warning signs and detours placed in flood-hit areas,” he said.

So far, four roads in the district are still closed to all vehicles, namely Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang (Arked Mara), Jalan Tun Sri Lanang (Bandar Kota Tinggi), Jalan Kampung Kelantan/Kampung Panti and Jalan Mawai Lama (Rumah Burung).

Meanwhile, Jalan Sungai Sayong (Loji Sayong) is closed to all light vehicles due to the strong current, he added. — Bernama
