KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 — Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has recently met the PAS’ top leadership said PAS national election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said.

However, Muhammad Sanusi said that the essence of the discussion between the two parties has not been disclosed, Sinar Harian reported.

He said that the discussion only involved the five highest PAS leadership.

"I was made to understand that Mukhriz has met some of the PAS leaders. Not sure where the meeting was held but it was confirmed that they have met.

"I also not sure what was the essence of the discussion as I was not part of the meeting,” he was quoted as saying.

Muhammad Sanusi, who is also Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, hopes that the initial discussions held with Mukhriz will lead to positive results.

He also welcomes if the Jitra state assemblyman wishes to join PAS or PN.

"Anyone who wants to join PAS will be accepted. PAS is an open party. Even Mukhriz can if he wants to join PAS. It’s just that, if he wants to be MB again it will be a bit difficult,” he said.

In January, Mukhriz confirmed that Pejuang had officially withdrawn from Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) in order to strengthen the party.

Mukhriz also did not rule out the possibility that Pejuang would establish political cooperation with either PN or Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state elections in six states.

This led to Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigning from the party but remaining as the GTA chairman.

Dr Mahathir was reported to have quit the party because he was disappointed with Mukhriz’s impatience who want Pejuang to be under a larger coalition such as the unity government or PN.
