Cops arrest 11 men from Batu Pahat for brawling after video spreads

JOHOR BARU, Feb 15 — Eleven men between the ages of 17 and 62 were arrested in Batu Pahat were arrested yesterday to facilitate investigations into rioting that was caught on camera after a video of it spread on social media.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah confirmed receiving two complaints filed on Monday about a fight that broke out at a homestay in Sri Gading in Batu Pahat.

The first was from a man and his family, and the second complaint was filed by a food delivery rider.

He added that the two complainants claimed to have suffered head and body injuries.

"Following that, police arrested the 11 men who were locals from the area,” Ismail in a statement last night, adding that they are being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

"Police are still investigating the case and have yet to identify the cause of the incident,” he said.

A minute-long video of a brawl involving a large group of men has been widely shared on several social media platforms.

Ismail advised the public not to speculate on the incident as investigations are still underway.
