"As a party member, the main element and the crux of my challenge will be to try to attract more youths to the party.

"I want to contribute not only to Malays but to all Malaysians. As such, with all humility I ask for support from all my Umno friends across Malaysia,” he said in a statement on Facebook yesterday.

Nazifuddin is the current Olympic Council of Malaysia secretary-general.

Meanwhile, Umno is scheduled to hold its party elections to appoint its new office bearers from February 1 to March 18.

The term for the existing office bearers was supposed to end on June 30, 2021.
