JOHOR BARU, Jan 6 — Anti-graft officials have arrested a Johor government-linked corporation’s (GLC) staff here for an investigation into false claims made for programmes that were not implemented in the state.
The Johor chapter of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) made the arrests at its state headquarters in Tampoi at 10am today.
MACC sources said the 39-year-old female suspect was detained shortly after she turned up to give her statement.
It is understood that the suspect is being probed for the alleged false claims made from 2017 to 2019.
Investigators alleged that the suspect submitted false claims to the GLC involved in relation to the implementation programmes in a Johor district that were not fully implemented.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest of the suspect under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which makes it an offence if one provides false claims with the intention to deceive the principal.
The suspect was later released on MACC bail.
