KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — City police are on the alert for potential provocation, whether on the streets or on social media, ahead of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s swearing-in ceremony as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor advised Malaysians to follow the law or face stern action.

He added that the authorities are also sweeping the internet and will crack down on those who deliberately upload any form of social media post that can cause any misunderstanding or strife affecting public order and harmony.

"Brickfields police headquarters is advising the public, especially political parties supporters to always obey the law to ensure the democratic process and appointment of the prime minister goes smoothly.

"The public is also reminded not to perform any form of speculation and commit acts that are against the law,” he said in a statement this afternoon.

Anwar, who leads the Pakatan Harapan coalition that won 82 seats out of 222 in last Saturday’s general election, is scheduled to take his oath of office before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at 5pm today.
