KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Selangor DAP secretary Ng Sze Han said today that the properties belonging to IOI Properties Group Bhd are located in Sepang and Subang, rather than Puchong following criticisms levelled at its candidate there Yeo Bee Yin.

Ng clarified that most of the properties are actually located in the Kinrara state constituency placed under the Subang federal seat — of which he is the state assemblyman.

"This includes Bandar Puteri Puchong, Puchong Jaya, IOI Boulevard Puchong, Sheraton Puchong and IOI Mall of Puchong. Meanwhile, the Sierra 16 and IOI City Mall are in Sepang Parliament.

"As such, none of the IOI Property development exists in the Puchong Parliament area to date,” he said in a statement.

He was responding to an earlier statement by the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), in which it raised its concerns about Yeo, the DAP candidate nominated to contest the Puchong Parliamentary seat, and her connections to the group.

Yeo is married to Lee Yeow Seng, the son of late IOI Group Berhad founder Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng.

C4 noted that Yeo’s nomination to run in Puchong was a "glaring blind spot”, saying that at best DAP was unaware of her business connections and that at worst the connection could become a leverage for the purposes of political funding.

It expressed worries over Yeo’s impartiality, and said that business-in-politics or vice-versa could give rise to issues such as nepotism and cronyism.

Without a Political Funding Act or asset declaration policy in place, it said political parties must remain vigilant in ensuring that the business-political next must be limited as must as possible, particularly for those parties that campaign on anti-corruption and reformist agendas.

Yeo is taking the place of DAP Selangor chief Gobind Singh Deo, who is the incumbent three-term MP for Puchong, as he is vacating the seat to seek re-election at the Damansara seat.
