Dr Hatta said Kedah Amanah deputy chief Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh will be taking over Phahrolrazi immediately.

News portals Malaysiakini and Astro Awani both reported that Phahrolrazi will be holding a news conference at 5.30pm today.

Malaysiakini reported Amanah communications director Khalid Samad saying that the Alor Kundor assemblyman had tried to incite Kedah Amanah leaders and members to "boycott” the general election.

"Although we may have different opinions in terms of party strategy and seat distribution, the action to incite a boycott cannot be accepted.

"It is tantamount to sabotage and is detrimental to the interests of Amanah and Harapan,” Khalid was quoted as saying.

Phahrolrazi’s expulsion comes just days before Malaysians are to vote in a new government on November 19.
