"I strive to see gender equality. There is nothing a man can do that a woman cannot. Women of today are on par with men in terms of capability and ability.

"I will work hard to ensure equal opportunities,” she was quoted as saying.

If she wins the seat, Nur Fathiah reportedly said that her immediate action will include tending to community issues, problems faced by traders, and improving commuter connectivity within Batu.

Besides that, she reportedly said she should like to focus on congestion issues occurring near People's Housing Programme flats and expanding economic activities.

Nur Fathiah will be running as an independent candidate as she reportedly said that doing so would allow her freedom to speak out on issues that she truly believes in while being realistic about her potential achievements.

The incumbent Batu MP is P. Prabakaran, who became Malaysia’s youngest ever MP as an independent candidate and law student in the last general election. He joined PKR after winning the seat.
