KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today said that the party will not renew the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakatan Harapan (PH) when it ends on July 31.

In a statement this evening, the Pontian MP said the decision to not prolong the MoU was reached during a meeting that was chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi earlier this evening.

"The position of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the federal government and Pakatan Harapan that will end on July 31, 2022 will not continue,” he said in a statement that was passed to the media during Umno’s buka puasa event held at the World Trade Centre here.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan were present at the event.

Previously, calls to end the MoU with Opposition had been voiced out by Umno leaders including Tan Sri Annuar Musa due to Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) extension was defeated during a bloc voting at the Parliament.

However, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of law Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has denied that MoU was void due to the historical defeat.

Last month, Ahmad Zahid also expressed that the party has no intention to extend the political ceasefire and suggested the government dissolve the Parliament to pave the way for a premature general election.
