KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — Malaysia today reported 2,690 new Covid-19 infections, which is a fall from 2,882 new cases yesterday.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced today that this brings the cumulative Covid-19 cases in the country to 2,767,044.

"A total of 3,535 cases recovered from the infection bringing the total cumulative recovered cases to 2,695,751.

"Of the new infections, 300 were import cases (278 citizens; 22 non-citizens); while local cases are 2,390 cases (2,317 citizens; 73 non -citizens),” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement later today.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, cases requiring treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) are 265 cases (188 Covid-19 confirmed cases; 77 suspected cases, probabilities, and cases under investigation).

"As for cases requiring respiratory assistance, there are 147 cases (81 confirmed Covid-19 cases; 66 suspected cases, probabilities, and cases under investigation),” he said.

On update of clusters, there are three new clusters bringing the total number of clusters to 6,137 clusters.

"Clusters which have stopped their infection rate are 5,931, active clusters are 206,” he said.

Of the 2,690 new cases reported today,

52 cases (1.9 per cent) were categories 3, 4, and 5; while 2,638 cases (98.1 per cent) were from categories 1 and 2.
