KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 —  Malaysia today reported an additional 3,900 Covid-19 cases, which brings the total tally of infections since the pandemic began to beyond the 2.7 million mark.

With the addition of today’s figures, the cumulative total would be 2,703,140 Covid-19 cases.

Up to noon today, the number of additional recoveries at 4,552 surpassed the number of additional Covid-19 cases.

This brings the cumulative total of recoveries to 2,615,162 out of the 2,703,140 cases, with the recovery rate still at 96.7 per cent.

Out of the 3,900 new Covid-19 cases reported today, 97.8 per cent or 3,814 are in the less severe category of 1 and 2, while 2.2 per cent or 86 cases are in the more severe categories of 3, 4 and 5.

Out of the 3,900 new cases, the majority or 3,881 were locally transmitted involving 3,692 Malaysians and 189 non-Malaysians, while 19 were imported cases involving 16 Malaysians and three non-citizens.

As of today, 384 cases require treatment in intensive care units (with 304 being confirmed Covid-19 cases and 80 suspected, probable or cases under investigation), with 213 of these patients requiring respiratory support (142 confirmed cases, and 71 suspected, probable and cases under investigation).

As of today, seven new clusters were recorded, bringing the cumulative total of clusters recorded to 6,056.

With 5,810 clusters having ended so far, there are now 246 clusters that are still active as of today.

The Health Ministry yesterday also said that 3,944,858 Covid-19 booster doses have been administered in Malaysia as of December 14, with this total being the cumulative tally since the booster doses were approved by the ministry in November.
