This makes it the second day in a row that daily cases have numbered more than 6,000. Yesterday, the ministry logged 6,243 cases.

Malaysia’s cumulative cases since the start of the pandemic now stand at 2,528,821.

Of the new cases recorded today, 6,086 were locals, while non-Malaysians numbered 237.

Ninety-seven cases or 1.7 per cent of the total are placed under Categories 3, 4 and 5 — meaning they have a lung infection or worse.

There are currently 538 patients warded in Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) — of which 35 are suspected but yet to be confirmed Covid-19 patients.

A total of 300 ICU patients are on ventilators.

Meanwhile, 5,337 people recovered from the disease, bringing the country’s recovery rate to 96.31 per cent.

Four new clusters were identified by MoH today, leaving the number of active clusters at 288.

The national infectivity rate, or Rt, stands at 0.99. Five states and federal territories have an Rt above the national average — Putrajaya (1.06), Kuala Lumpur (1.03), Selangor (1.03), Kelantan (1.01) and Negri Sembilan (1.00).

MoH also announced that cumulatively, the number of cases involving Covid-19 Variants of Concern (VoC) in Malaysia reached 3,810.

Today, 48 new such cases were recorded, comprising 34 cases in Penang, 12 in Pahang and two in Perlis.

Variants of Interest (VOI) cases cumulatively number 20 as of today.

Sarawak takes up the lion’s share of cumulative VOC and VOI cases added together, with 1,850 cases — followed by Selangor (462), Johor (251), Penang (239) and Sabah (161).
