KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — Daily new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dropped further to 8,075 cases today, falling below five digits for the second day in a row.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) revealed that Sarawak was still the highest contributor among states and Federal Territories, with 1,189 cases.

Meanwhile, cases in Kelantan soared to 1,020 today — from 729 yesterday — taking the second spot in the list.

This was followed by the 853 cases in Penang, and 781 cases in Johor.

In both Selangor and Kuala Lumpur cases fell, to 686, and 151 respectively.

From the new cases today, six were imported, comprising four Malaysians and two non-Malaysians.

A total of 867 Covid-19 patients are currently warded in intensive care units (ICUs) nationwide, with 461 cases out of those requiring intubation.

From the total new cases, only 2.0 per cent or 212 cases were placed under Categories 3, 4 and 5 — meaning they have gotten a lung infection or worse.

Meanwhile, 15,456 patients recovered from the disease in the same period, bringing the country’s recovery rate to 92.6 per cent.

Regarding Rt or infectivity rates, Perlis topped today’s list with an Rt of 1.02, followed by Putrajaya (1.02) Terengganu (1.00), Melaka and Negri Sembilan (0.99 each).

Currently, the national average infectivity rate is 0.87 — all states and Federal Territories except Selangor, Sabah, Penang, KL and Labuan recorded a Rt higher than the national average today.
