Dr Noor Hisham: New Covid-19 cases climb to 18,547, Sarawak again top with 3,200 cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Malaysia added another 18,574 Covid-19 cases, taking the country’s cumulative total to 1,880,734 since the start of the pandemic.

Sarawak again led with 3,200 cases, followed by Selangor (2,407 cases), Johor (2,174 cases), Sabah (2,107 cases) and Penang (1,776 cases).

This is the second straight day that cases have been below 20,000, after yesterday’s 17,352 cases.

"From the 18,547 cases today, 308 are in Categories 3, 4 and 5. Sixty-nine of them have been fully vaccinated, 71 partially vaccinated and 168 were not vaccinated.

"In Categories 1 and 2 around 6,063 individuals were fully vaccinated, 4,088 partially vaccinated and 8,088 unvaccinated,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.

There were also another 39 new Covid-19 clusters today, nine of them in Johor. Out of that, 23 were categorised as workplace clusters which contributed to 897 cases today.

Another 13 were categorised as community clusters spread across Sarawak (five clusters), Pahang (four clusters), Kelantan, Kedah and Johor (two clusters) and one cluster in Melaka.

There are now 252,002 active cases in the country.
