Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases go back up with 20,780 new infections; Johor and Kedah highest after Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 ― Less than a week after daily new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia fell below 20,000 cases, the Ministry of Health (MoH) recorded 20,780 new cases today.

In a Twitter post, MoH revealed that Selangor alone recorded 6,921 cases, maintaining the highest number of new cases among the states and Federal Territories.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,065), Johor (1,693), Kedah (1,534), Sabah (1,514), Penang, (1,385), Kelantan (1,284) and Negri Sembilan (1,015).

All other states recorded cases fewer than 1,000 cases, including Perak (828), Melaka (636), Sarawak (634), Terengganu (613) and Pahang (584).

The three lowest number of cases were detected in Putrajaya, Perlis, and Labuan with 41, 29 and three cases respectively.

The country’s average R-naught is currently 1.07.

Perlis has the highest R-naught among states and Federal Territories at 1.37.

This is followed by Kelantan (1.21), Sabah (1.16), Perak (1.15), Sarwaj (1.14), Terengganu (1.14), Kedah (1.13), Penang (1.12), Pahang (1.10) and Johor (1.09).

Others recorded a R-naught below the nationwide average.

There were 31 new Covid-19 clusters recorded today, comprising 18 from workplaces, 10 from within the general community, and two involving "high risk groups”.

There are currently 1,258 clusters still active from the 4,034 cumulative clusters detected in the country since the pandemic struck.
