Service company in Kedah, medical centre in Terengganu among Malaysia’s 42 new Covid-19 clusters today

KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — A service company based in the Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah was the largest contributor of new cases among the 42 new Covid-19 clusters recorded by the Ministry of Health today.

The new cases are a significant jump in daily clusters compared to the 33 recorded yesterday.

Cumulatively, Malaysia has recorded 3,527 clusters nationwide since the pandemic began last year. Right now, 1,028 are still active.

The Kedah workplace cluster, dubbed the Dah 14 Industri Kulim, saw 187 people test positive for the coronavirus out of 317 screened so far.

Another notable new cluster in the same state is a cluster that involved several attendees of a burial ceremony in Pekan Singkir Darat, Yan.

The cluster, which is now called the Dah Singkir cluster, currently is responsible for 21 new Covid-19 cases, who were detected after the screening of 37 people.

Furthermore, in Dungun, Terengganu there is a new "high-risk group” cluster involving patients and staff of a medical centre.

Cases from the cluster — the Alor Tempoyak cluster — have spilled over to Kelantan and now number 55 cases in total.

The first Covid-19 carrier detected in this cluster was a 47-year-old Malaysian who was screened before a medical treatment.

Following close-contact screenings have covered 413 people.

The second largest cluster among the new ones today is the Tembok Tapah 2 cluster which involves a detention centre in Batang Padang, Perak.

A total of 144 Covid-19 cases have been detected in this cluster after 350 people were screened.

This is followed by the Sepakan Makmur cluster which is a "community cluster” detected in Kampung Pulau Serai, Pekan.

The cluster is responsible for 61 cases to date, who were detected following the screening of 229 people.

Today, the country recorded 16,177 new Covid-19 cases and 207 deaths, with the total death tally since the pandemic hit the country at 8,408.
