Malaysia’s Covid-19 patients in ICU hits new ceiling at 972, as 125 more die

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Another 125 people died from Covid-19 nationwide today, raising the cumulative fatality count to 6,385 since the pandemic spread in Malaysia last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced 972 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU), which topped yesterday’s 963 record high.

He said 456 of those in ICU need ventilators.

Of today’s deaths, 65 were those above 60 years old, an age bracket deemed to be high risk. Eight were aged 40 and below, including a 21-year-old who died at Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

Sixteen were brought in dead.

All but 17 of the deceased were Malaysians.

Only 19 did not have pre-existing health problems.

"A total of 125 death cases today involving 57 cases in Selangor, 20 cases in Kuala Lumpur, 13 cases each in Negri Sembilan, nine cases in Melaka, seven cases each in Kedah and Johor, three cases in Pahang, two cases each in Perak, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, as well as one case in Kelantan,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.
