Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases drop below 6,000

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — Malaysia has added 5,793 more Covid-19 patients in the past 24-hour period, according to Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Based on the Health director-general’s data, the country’s cumulative Covid-19 cases was now 652,204.

On Twitter, Dr Noor Hisham also disclosed that Selangor was still the state with the highest number of new cases, with 1,582 recorded today.

Negri Sembilan and Sarawak come second and third, with 618 and 569 cases, respectively.

The other states recording new Covid-19 cases are Kuala Lumpur (559), Johor (504), Sabah (378), Kelantan (337), Labuan (250), Perak (218), Penang (198), Melaka (178), Kedah (171), Pahang (121), Terengganu (82), Putrajaya (23) and Perlis (five).

Dr Noor Hisham said that 76 more deaths were recorded today, adding that 914 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), with 459 of them needing ventilator support.

On a brighter note, Dr Noor Hisham said that 8,334 Covid-19 patients had also recovered from the infection — the highest recorded in one day.

A total of 24 new Covid-19 clusters have been detected today, bringing the number of active clusters in the country to 761.

"Of the 24 new clusters, 15 involve workplaces, seven from community transmissions and two involving holding facilities,” he said.
