Covid-19 cases drop to 3,780 today, Selangor tops list yet again with 1,275, 36 deaths nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — The number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dipped slightly to 3,780 today, with Selangor alone recording 1,275 cases, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced, adding that 36 patients had died from the virus infection.

"There are 36 death cases today involving eight in Selangor, six  in Penang, five respectively in Sarawak and Kedah, four  in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, three in Perak, two in Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu and one case in Pahang,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

On the number of cases according to states, Sarawak followed suit with 405 cases recorded in the state, with Kedah recording 363 cases.

The nation yesterday recorded 4,140 cases, with a record 44 deaths.

Other states that reported new cases are Kelantan (357), Kuala Lumpur (342), Johor (224), Penang (187), Pahang (159), Melaka (122) and Perak (115).

The Federal Territories of Labuan and Putrajaya recorded seven cases respectively, while Perlis recorded two cases.

In his statement, Dr Noor Hisham said that 3,990 patients have recovered as of today, with 272 in need on ventilators.

He also announced the detection of 11 new Covid-19 clusters.

Dr Noor Hisham said 470 out of 1,887 clusters are still active. This includes the 11 new clusters reported today.

Four of the 11 new clusters today involved education institutions.
