KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — A man and a woman were found dead in their rented home in Bangsar earlier today.

The couple were said to have been unresponsive to repeated phone calls, prompting concerned friends of the man to check up on him today, resulting in the discovery of their death.

It is understood through social media posts that the victims, aged between 38 and 46, were motorcycle enthusiasts, while circumstances surrounding their deaths remain cloudy.

Other posts online showed heavy police presence spotted outside the couple’s home earlier today, with passers-by claiming to have seen police transferring the bodies using forensic trucks

It also remains unclear how many days the couple was dead before today’s tragic discovery.

When contacted, Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar verified the deaths with Malay Mail, adding that investigations are underway 

"They were staying in a rented home, and they had left a note behind,” he said, adding that an official statement would be issued later today.

Anuar in his statement said the man was a Malaysian and the woman a Thai. He said investigators learnt they were married since 2018, but moved into the triple-story terrace house on April 6, which they rented through an online booking platform.

He said police were alerted to the scene at half past noon by a real estate agent, who gained entry into the house using a spare set of keys he obtained from the property owner, after failing to contact the couple.

"The agent then immediately contacted police for assistance and lodged a report,” he said.

Anuar said that police have ruled out foul play. He said the couple was found lying motionless in their bedroom with a note written and addressed to each of their families.

He said investigators found burnt charcoal in the room and the windows and door sealed tight.

He said a close acquaintance told police the couple had no known enemies, and had not mentioned having recent problems.

He said medical officers at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre later confirmed death was from smoke inhalation.

The time of death is estimated to be around 6am today. However, a full post-mortem will be conducted.
