KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — The Health Ministry today reported 941 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the first time the numbers have hit below 1,000 since December 9.

According to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, this brings the total cumulative positive cases to 342,885.

From the Ministry’s data, each state saw a drop in new cases, especially Selangor, which only logged 219 cases today.  

"Sawarak recorded 192 cases, Johor 171 cases and Penang 164 cases,” he said in a statement today.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (57), Kelantan (49), Sabah (34), Negri Sembilan (18), Kedah (13), Melaka (eight), Pahang (five), Perak (five), Terengganu (four), Labuan (one) and Putrajaya (one).

No new cases were recorded in Perlis.

Of the new cases, 933 were local transmissions comprising 653 Malaysians and 280 foreign nationals.

Dr Noor Hisham added that five deaths were reported involving four Malaysian citizens and one foreigner. 

"There are 166 patients being treated in intensive care units, and 73 are on air ventilators.

"Active cases currently stands at 14,219, while 1,097 made a recovery today,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said three new clusters have been detected involving two workplaces in Section 16, Selangor and Jalan Azlan, Kuala Lumpur, and one among the community in Taman Vistagro, Sarawak.

The Section 16 cluster was detected from a workplace that spreads over Hulu Langat and Sepang in Selangor.

"This cluster involves an education centre at Section 16, Bandar Baru Bangi.

"Since March 29, 322 individuals have been screened, where 18 have been tested positive,” he said.

For Jalan Azlan cluster, this involves the Kepong district, Titiwangsa, and Kuala Langat, Selangor.

"The index case was detected from a public office in Sentul and has infected nine people.

"As for the Taman Vistagro cluster, it involves a community in the Sri Aman district and has recorded 18 positive cases,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

To date, he added, there are 373 active clusters, while 977 have ended.
