Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made the announcement today, in a live television address.

He also said that residents in states going under recovery movement control order (RMCO) will be restricted to a 10km radius of their homes.

"Only two household members are allowed to go out and be in the same vehicle. Any individuals who violate this order can be issued a RM1,000 compound,” Muhyiddin announced.

"Interstate movement is not allowed throughout the country while for areas under the RMCO inter-district movement is also not allowed.

"Following this ban on movement across states and districts, the roadblock operations will take effect at 12.01am, Wednesday, January 13, 2021,” he added.

The government had, on December 7, lifted the travel ban, resulting in many travelling within the country for the year-end holidays.

On January 4, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that five Covid-19 clusters were formed due to interstate movement that resumed.

He said these were the Inten, Semambu and Tembok Mempaga clusters in Pahang; Seragam Chepa cluster in Kelantan; and Ehsan Ibol cluster in Perak.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that nine clusters have been traced to social activities within the same period.
