Dr Noor Hisham: Five Covid-19 clusters due to interstate travel, nine from social gatherings

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — Five Covid-19 clusters were formed due to interstate movement that resumed after authorities lifted the domestic travel ban on December 7, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today,

He said these were the Inten, Semambu and Tembok Mempaga clusters in Pahang; Seragam Chepa cluster in Kelantan; and Ehsan Ibol cluster in Perak.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that nine clusters have been traced to social activities within the same period.

The Health D-G went on to announce five new clusters today: two in Selangor, one in Perak which has spread to Selangor, one in Kuala Lumpur, and one in Melaka.

In Selangor, the Jalan Duyong cluster in Klang and Pasar Jalan Sentosa cluster in Kuala Langat, were both workplace clusters, with the first cases detected on December 31 and January 3 respectively.

To date, 110 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in relation to the Jalan Duyong cluster, and 61 cases have been recorded belonging to the Pasar Jalan Sentosa cluster.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Jalan Nakhoda cluster was detected at a workplace in the Titiwangsa district. The first case in the cluster was recorded on December 28 and since then 14 cases have been recorded from the cluster.

In Perak, the Ehsan Ibol cluster has triggered cases in the districts of Hulu Perak, Larut, Matang and Selama; and also spread to Gombak, Selangor.

The first case in the cluster was recorded on December 31, and since then 22 cases have been recorded from the cluster.

In Melaka, the Telok Mas cluster was found to have emerged from a detention centre in Melaka Tengah. The cluster’s first case was detected on January 1, and 13 more related cases have been recorded since then.
