KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he will not be made a federal minister following his removal as the mentri besar of Perak.
Ahmad Faizal was ousted from the position after state Umno lawmakers launched the move against him last week under the guise of a confidence vote.
The deputy of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is eligible to join the Cabinet as he is the member of parliament for Tambun in addition to being the assemblyman for Chenderiang.
Speculation emerged following Ahmad Faizal’s removal as the Perak MB that he would be given a federal position due to his seniority in Bersatu.
According to national news agency Bernama, Ahmad Faizal also said he was unlikely to join successor Datuk Saarani Mohamad’s exco line-up as we wanted to focus on his two elected representative roles.
Instead, the Perak Bersatu chief said he has proposed several candidates for Saraani’s consideration.
"I have discussed it with the (new) Mentri Besar and I believe he will present these names to Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah; we hope for the best,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Saraani has so far selected four Umno lawmakers and one from Bersatu as his excos.
Last week, Perak Umno lawmakers ousted Ahmad Faizal as the mentri besar of the state under the guise of a confidence motion on him, which he then lost 48-10.
