KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reportedly called for a meeting with all state chief ministers in Putrajaya tomorrow.

News about the meeting emerged just after the Conference of Malay Rulers concluded an urgent meeting this evening, with speculation mounting that a majority of them support the call for the Emergency rule.

An aide to Penang Chief Minister confirmed that the meeting will be taking place tomorrow and that Chow Kon Yeow will attend.

However, the meeting agenda was not disclosed.

Muhyiddin had reportedly sought to evoke Emergency rule in a seeming bid to avert a vote of no-confidence against his administration’s maiden budget.

He was granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Friday, leading to a meeting between Malay Rulers to be convened this evening. 

But the Palace later issued a statement  expressing its disagreement with the need to enforce a state of emergency.

Sultan Abdullah of Pahang said he saw existing Covid-19 measures as sufficient to deal with the pandemic, which has worsened in the last few weeks as the country began recording sharp spikes in fresh cases.
