Putrajaya extends Sabah CMCO till Nov 9, Ismail Sabri says at state govt’s request

KUALA LUMPUR, October 24 — The conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Sabah has been extended by another 14 days at the request of the state government and the Sabah National Security Council (NSC).

The announcement was made today by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his daily press briefing, broadcast live on Facebook.

"For now, the Ministry of Health is still conducting targeted screenings for residents, and until now, there is still a high increase in positive cases, which were detected among the residents of Sabah.

"Therefore, on the suggestion of Sabah government and Sabah NCS, the government therefore agrees to extend the CMCO in Sabah for another 14 days, from October 27  till November 9,” he said.

The entire state of Sabah was placed under CMCO beginning October 13 at 12.01am and was initially to last until October 26. 

The CMCO in Sabah also means that all religious, sports, education, cultural, wedding receptions and social activities are prohibited throughout the two-week period. 

During the press conference, Ismail also announced the imposing of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in two more areas in Tawau, Sabah; Taman Semarak and the Balung People Housing  Programme (PPR) apartment

He said that the Special Ministerial Meeting Committee agreed to impose the EMCO from October 26, till November 8.

"The imposing of the EMCO in both locations would involve 4,2666 homes, with a total of 21,470 residents,” Ismail said.

He added that individuals are also not allowed to leave home, unless to buy groceries in sundry shops, which are allowed to open from 6am till 6pm.

Ismail said that the Ministry of Health would be conducting targeted screenings in the area, while the state government would be providing meals to those affected.
