KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today confirmed one new Covid-19 cluster, while two clusters have registered no new cases and will no longer be under observation.

The new cluster, which was identified in Kota Belud, Sabah, is called the Kertang cluster.

"Sources of the new clusters are still under investigation,” said Dr Noor Hisham in his daily Covid-19 press conference this evening.

He said the origin of the Kertang cluster was identified as a Covid-19 positive case during close contact screenings done on October 14 and was immediately admitted to the Taman Seri Bayu quarantine centre.

"Subsequently, close contact screenings were conducted and 19 more positive cases were discovered.

"As of 12pm today, a total of 216 individuals have been screened under the new Kertang cluster, with 21 confirmed positive cases and 195 confirmed negative cases,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that both the Setapak and Selamat clusters have not registered any new cases in the past 28 days, hence they will no longer be under observation by the Health Ministry.

He added that since September 28, a total of 26 active clusters have been detected in Selangor, with eight clusters originating from returnees from Sabah while the remaining 18 clusters were from community spread.

"The number of clusters in Selangor can be attributed to high population density and high movement rates by residents and visitors of the state,” he said.

The first cluster that was registered in this third wave was the Jalan Apas cluster on September 28, and the latest cluster to be registered in Selangor is the Hentian cluster.
