Dr Mahathir denies supporting ‘someone’ to be PM, Pejuang remains independent

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has clarified today that he has not given his support to a certain candidate who wishes to be the prime minister, following Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s royal audience to prove he has the majority support of Dewan Rakyat.

In a short one-minute video, the former prime minister also insisted that his new Parti Pejuang Tanah Air remains independent of any individual or his party.

"I would like to state that I have never given support to anyone to become the prime minister,” he said, never once mentioning Anwar’s name in his statement.

"I hope there will be no more attempt to paint me as being supportive of this person.”

 

Earlier today, Anwar had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to inform the latter to that he has sufficient majority in Parliament to unseat Muhyiddin as the prime minister.

In response to the meeting, Istana Negara then a statement, explaining that Anwar had merely shown that he had 120 MPs supporting him but not exactly who these MPs are.

In his press conference today, Anwar had also stated that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah would be calling all political party leaders to provide their input on the matter concerning their support for him.

Earlier today, Umno advisory council board chairman Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was also reported to have met with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong following Anwar’s meeting today.
