Covid-19: Five new clusters form in KL, Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The Health Ministry identified five new Covid-19 clusters nationwide today — two in Sabah, and one each in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Labuan.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the new clusters in Sabah are called Tujuh Serangkai and Tanamera.

The one in Kuala Lumpur is called the Jalan Pantai Cluster, the one in Sarawak is called the Bah Arnab Cluster and in Labuan, it is called the Bah Bangat Cluster.

"Sources of the new clusters are still under investigation,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a news conference.

The index patient for the Tujuh Serangkai Cluster in Sabah was confirmed to be a Covid-19 positive case from screenings on October 5 and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Close contact screenings detected 22 other positive cases.

Up until 12pm today, 325 people have already been screened under the cluster, with 23 cases confirmed positive and 302 others still waiting for results.

The Tanamera Cluster’s origin in Sabah was discovered to be a Covid-19 positive case that was caught during screening on September 29 and subsequently admitted to the Tawau Hospital.

"Subsequently, close contact screening was conducted, and eight more positive cases were recorded,” he said.

As of 12pm today, 13 people have been screened under the Tanamera Cluster, with nine confirmed to be positive, one confirmed negative and three others waiting for results.

The index patient for Jalan Pantai Cluster in Kuala Lumpur was discovered to be a Covid-19 positive case that was screened on October 8 and admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Close contact screenings were done, and six other positive cases were recorded.

Up until 12pm today, as many as 15 people have been screened under the Jalan Pantai Cluster, with eight more positive cases discovered and seven others waiting for results.

In Sarawak, the index patient for the Bah Arnab case has been identified as a person who was tested positive upon returning from a high-risk area on October 7 and was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital.

"Subsequently, close contact screenings detected three other positive cases,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

As of 12pm today, 20 people have been screened under the Bah Arnab Cluster, with four confirmed positive cases and 16 negative cases.

Finally, the Bah Bangat Cluster in Labuan’s index patient was identified as a person who was tested positive upon returning from a high-risk area on October 3. Close contact screenings were conducted, and eight other positive cases were identified.

As of 12pm today, 45 individuals have been screened under the Bah Bangat Cluster, where nine positive cases were identified, 32 tested negative and four still waiting for results.
