New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dip to 489 today with no deaths after record daily high yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — The Ministry of Health announced 489 new Covid-19 cases today bringing Malaysia cumulative positive cases to 13,993, down from yesterday’s record high of 691.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that only two of the cases out of today’s total were imported, while the rest are local.

"Sabah reported 282 cases, Kedah reported 153 cases and Selangor reported 20 cases”.

No deaths were recorded today, and the total fatalities remains at 141 after four deaths yesterday.

Breakdown of the 489 cases today

For Sabah, 183 were detected from community screenings, 71 from symptomatic screenings, 22 cases from close contact with a Covid-19 patient, two cases from the Laut Cluster, two cases from hospitalisation screenings, one case from hospital reference screenings, one case from pre-surgery screening and one case from prisoner screening.

In Kedah, 139 cases were detected from the Tembok Cluster, and 14 cases from the Bah Sintok Cluster.

Selangor recorded 19 cases which were detected from returnees from Sabah, one from Selasih Cluster, four cases from Jalan Meru Cluster, three from symptomatic screenings, two cases from Benteng PK Cluster, one case from Embun Cluster and one case from close contact with Covid-19 patient.

Penang recorded seven cases which were detected from the new Penjara Reman Cluster involving 6 cases and one from close contact with Covid-19 patient.

Johor recorded six cases which were detected from close contact with Covid-19 patient involving five cases and one case from Selasih Cluster.

Perak recorded four cases which were detected from Bah Puchong Cluster involving two cases, one case from returnees from Sabah and one from close contact with Covid-19 patient.

Terengganu also recorded four cases which were detected from close contact with Covid-19 patient involving two cases, one case from symptomatic screening and one case from close contact with Covid-19 patient.

Kuala Lumpur federal territory recorded three cases which were detected from Sarawak entry screening involving one case, one case from pre-surgery screening and one case from pre-marital screening.

Sarawak also recorded three cases which were detected from returnees from Sabah involving 2 cases and one case from domestic entry screening.

Pahang recorded two cases which were detected from before leaving the country screening and one case from pre-surgery screening.

Putrajaya recorded two cases which were detected from close contact with Covid-19 patient and one from hospitalisation screening.

Negri Sembilan recorded one case which were detected from pre surgery screening.

Kelantan recorded one case which were detected from close contact with Covid-19 patient.

Dr Noor Hisham added that there were 40 cases of positive Covid-19 who were being treated in the Care Unit (ICU), of which 13 cases required respiratory assistance.

He added that there were no additional deaths related to Covid-19 were reported today. In fact, the cumulative number of cases of Covid-19 deaths in Malaysia is 141 cases (1.01 per cent of the total number of cases).
