KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — The police can now issue compounds to individuals who are not adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) immediately, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

He said the government has authorised police officers with the rank of inspector and above to do so.

"To make things easier for the police in the field, the Attorney General’s Chambers has agreed to allow the police to issue compounds on the spot,” Ismail said in his daily briefing on the country’s security while under the Covid-19 recovery movement control order (RMCO).

He added that the compounds will be issued on the spot starting today.

Previously, the police would have to take the SOP violators to the nearest police station before issuing the compound fines.

"For example, if someone is caught breaking RMCO rules at a roadblock, then that’s where the compound will be issued,” he said.

The compound fine for violators is currently at RM1,000.
