KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Malaysia recorded 24 new Covid-19 cases today and no deaths from the highly infectious virus, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced today.

In a statement, the director-general of the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that seven patients were also discharged after recovery.

Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new cases, six were imported Bangladesh (two cases) and one each from China, Indonesia, Singapore, and South Korea.

He noted that these patients landed in Malaysia before the prohibition against arrivals from countries with over 150,000 cumulative Covid-19 cases became effective on September 7.

"Two cases from Bangladesh arrived in Malaysia on September 6, 2020, and were screened on the same day.

"Meanwhile one case from China arrived in Malaysia on September 5, 2020 and was screened on September, 2020. Their screening test results were reported positive for Covid-19 today. The same applies for some import cases reported on September 8,  2020.

"Of the 18 cases of infection within the country, 16 were among Malaysian citizens and two involved non-citizens,” he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said currently, seven Covid-19 positive patients required intensive care including four on ventilators.
