Dr Noor Hisham: New Covid-19 cluster in Lahad Datu district police headquarters

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 ― The director-general of the Ministry of Health (MOH) today announced a new Covid-19 cluster at the Lahad Datu district police headquarters in Sabah.

In his press briefing today, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Benteng LD cluster was detected when detainees in its lockup were screened for the virus.

He said that of the 50 screened on August 28, seven were found to be Covid-19 positive.

"The positive case of this Covid-19 cluster involves six illegal immigrants (PATI) and one Malaysian citizen.

"All these positive cases are not symptomatic and have been admitted to Lahad Datu Hospital. Prevention and control measures such as the cleaning and disinfection process have been carried out at the identified locations.

"Active case detection and close contact screenings are still ongoing. The cause of the infection is under investigation,” Dr Noor Hisham said.
