KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — The Health Ministry has detected the emergence of another cluster, this time among restaurant workers in Titiwangsa.

Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first cases, the 9,176th and 9,177th respectively, were already reported on Sunday (August 16).

"The two restaurant workers were detected based on random screening on staff at their workplace, part of the overall efforts for downtown KL,” he said in a statement.

Dr Noor Hisham said close-contact tracing revealed one of the restaurant’s patrons was affected, as the individual began displaying symptoms of sore throat and headaches on Monday (August 17) and was subsequently admitted into Hospital Sungai Buloh.

"Currently, 672 people have already been screened, including 16 workers and 656 restaurant patrons. Of this number, three tested positive for Covid-19, while the remaining 669 tested negative.

"Active case detection and close-contact tracing are being carried out, with decontamination and debacterialisation efforts at the restaurant in question already completed,” he said.

Malaysia has recorded a total of 101 Covid-19 clusters emerging since the pandemic began to affect the country earlier this year. Currently, 84 have since been resolved while 17 remain active.

The active clusters with the highest number of cases include Tawar with 58, Sivagangga with 15 and Sala with 11. All three clusters are in Kedah.
