Malaysia again charts record number of daily Covid-19 recoveries

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 — The Ministry of Health announced today that the country has yet again recorded its highest Covid-19 recoveries, with 479 recoveries, which is an increase of 91 compared to the previous record yesterday.

However, the country also recorded 156 positive Covid-19 cases today, with a total of 2,626 cases to date and three new deaths — bringing the total fatalities related to the outbreak to 37.

This was slightly lower compared to yesterday, where Malaysia recorded a peak of seven fatalities.

"To date, as many as 94 positive Covid-19 case are being treated in the Intensive care unit (ICU). From that amount, 62 cases required respiratory aid,” said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham in a press conference today.

Dr Noor Hisham also said two of three cases of deaths announced today had history of chronic diseases.

One of the deceased (Case #1,952) was a 57-year-old female who had a history of diabetes and travel to Indonesia. She was hospitalised at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, and was confirmed dead on March 29, 2020.

Another deceased, (Case #2,471) was a 46-year-old female with a background of high blood pressure and autoimmune diseases.

In the last week, the National Security Council had imposed an Enhance movement control order (EMCO) on several villages in Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat in Selangor, and Simpang Renggam, Kluang in Johor.

According to reports, 71 positive cases were recorded in Sungai Lui, putting some 3,918 residents in 700 homes under lockdown.

The EMCO is Simpang Renggam also affected several villages, comprising 3,570 residents from 650 homes.

Dr Noor Hisham said health authorities are conducting door-to-door Covid-19 tests in both areas, with an average of 300 test per day and hope to conclude within the next 10 days.

Dr Noor Hisham again urge Malaysians to adhere to the movement control order issued by the government as well as maintaining good hygiene practices and being discipline in social distancing as mean to combat the oubreak.
