Two dead, one hurt after car rams petrol kiosk in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU, Jan 4 — Two men were killed and a woman was injured after the car they were travelling in went out of control and hit a petrol station at the 9.5 kilometre, Jalan Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi, here, this morning.

South Johor Baru district police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais said the dead were driver, Prem Jayapal, 32, and front passenger, S. Katiravan, 33, while the injured woman was back seat passenger Lim Wei Si, 21.

"The mishap is believed to have taken place when the black Honda City heading to Kota Tinggi from the direction of Pandan skidded at a curve in the road and hit the road divider of the entry road to the petrol kiosk.

"The car spun and crashed into a pillar support at the station,” he said through a statement today.

Shahurinain said that as a result of the accident Prem Jayapal was thrown out of the car and was pinned under the vehicle on the driver’s side while Katiraven was still in the car between the front passenger’s and the driver’s seats.

He said both of the were confirmed dead at the scene by the medical officer.

"The woman was injured on the head and was now being treated at the yellow zone of the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI), but, could still talk when met,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tebrau Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Fire Senior Officer 11, Khairul Azhar Abd Aziz, in a statement, said a eight firemen in a Fire rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit rushed to the scene after a call was received on the mishap at 6.26am.

He said the firemen helped to take out both the bodies of the victims and the rescue operation was ended at 7.40am. — Bernama
