Minister: PTPTN collected RM6.23b from 2013 to 2019

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) collected RM6.23 billion in federal study loan repayments up until May, Parliament heard today.

Education Minister Maszlee Malik told the Dewan Rakyat the collections date back to 2013 and involved 1.13 million borrowers from various age groups.

"Firstly for the age group of between 20 and 29 years-old, 642,410 borrowers repaid RM3.3 billion, for the age group of between 30 and 39 years-old meanwhile, 449,403 borrowers repaid RM2.65 billion.

For the age group of between 40 and 49 years-old, 33,047 borrowers repaid RM228.441 million, for the age group of between 50 and 59 years-old, 2,531 borrowers repaid RM16.148 million, and for the age group of between 60 and above, 80 borrowers repaid RM367,234.42,” Maszlee said.

He was responding to a question by Paya Besar MP Mohd Shahar Abdullah, who asked for the state of repayment of PTPTN loan according to age breakdown from 2013 to June 2019.

Shahar also asked the ministry to state details of a new strategy and policy to be implemented, to encourage borrowers to repay the loan, or if the ministry would re-implement the previous strategies and policies.
