KLANG, May 28 — Motorists can enjoy toll discounts of between 10 to 33 per cent for Class 1 vehicles on the first day of Hari Raya, Works Minister Baru Bian said today.

"Through the incentives under this corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, I believe highway users will also feel appreciated by the concession companies, especially motorists who often use their highways,” Baru said while launching the Highway Safety Campaign for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2019 at the Klang Utara Rest and Recreation Stop.

However, the works minister did not reveal said highways, adding that an announcement from the ministry will be forthcoming.

Meanwhile, three other highways will provide toll reductions at certain toll plazas, including Ampangan at the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas), Pulau Indah at the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), as well as Perling and Lima Kedai at the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (Linkedua), Baru added.

The toll discount will take place from 12 midnight on the first day of Hari Raya to 12 midnight at the end of the day, he said.

When asked why the toll reduction could not be implemented for the following days of Hari Raya, Baru said: "We should remember that this is a CSR programme. The offer was provided as a good gesture out of good faith (by the concession companies)”.

"So I think we should be thankful for that. If there are positive suggestions (regarding the toll discounts), we can propose them (to the concession companies) and they can take note for the coming years,” he added.

The provision of toll discounts during festive occasions was introduced in 2010, with discount rates ranging from 5 per cent to 100 per cent over the years.
