GEORGE TOWN, Nov 29 — The Magistrate’s Court here today ordered a DAP assemblyman’s former aide to enter his defence on a charge of molesting a woman last year.
Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap made the decision after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against the accused L. Prem Anand, 51.
The court then set January 15 for the accused to enter his defence.
On July 18 last year, Prem Anand was charged with using criminal force with the intention to outrage the modesty of a 22-year-old woman at a parking lot of an entertainment outlet at Lebuh Pantai here at about 11.30pm on July 6 last year.
The charge framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment or a fine or whipping or any two of the punishment on conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Shafiq Mohd Sazali prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer E. Gnasegaran.
Meanwhile, in Petaling Jaya, a cook was fined RM7,100 by the Magistrate’s Court today for filming a housemate bathing and possessing nude photographs of her in his mobile phone.
Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham meted out the sentence on Ong Siew Khong, 38, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence against the victim, a Filipino restaurant worker at a house in Damansara Jaya, here between 11.30am and 1.45pm, October 21.
The court ordered Ong to pay a fine of RM7,000 in default seven months’ jail on the first count and RM100 or a month’s jail on the second count. — Bernama
