SUBANG JAYA, Nov 28 — The severe injuries suffered by fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was not the result of rioters but from a fire truck reversing into him at full speed, a worshipper at the Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam claimed today.

 S. Ramaji, who heads a faction involved in a dispute over the temple’s relocation, pointed to a video clip that has been uploaded on Facebook and shared on various social media platforms to support his allegation.

"Actually what happened was, he went and stood at the back of the fire engine, and the fire engine reversed so fast and hit him onto a car which was at the back,” Ramaji told a news conference at the temple here.

He then showed reporters a picture from the scene, claiming the fireman in it was Muhammad Adib who is now fighting for survival at the National Heart Institute (IJN). "And all the people who were there, they took him, they saved him and put him into a car and sent him to the hospital. We have video evidence here,” Ramaji further added. VK Regu, the faction’s secretary said some of the temple’s supporters who were there had also tried to help Muhammad Adib, along with several other demonstrators. Regu, however, appeared apprehensive when informed of reports that there were swellings on the 24-year-old fireman’s body. "After the accident, wouldn’t there be swelling?  Don’t tell me (it’s) because people hit (him). Even when knocked, there will be swelling too. "We have video. See here whether the doctor is saying the truth or if this video is the truth. See with your own eyes and decide. Tell the masses,” Regu added. Regu claimed that people were running behind the fire engine, thumping the vehicle to inform the driver that one of his comrades was injured. Muhammad Adib, who is from the Subang Jaya Emergency Response System (EMRS) unit, was transferred to IJN from the Subang Jaya Medical Center (SJMC) last night. Muhammad Adib was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the SJMC yesterday with broken ribs and bruises on his chest and abdomen after allegedly being assaulted by rioters who forcefully pulled him out of the emergency medical response vehicle deployed to the scene.
