JOHOR BARU, Nov 4 — The Johor government welcomes the decision of the federal government to give back 50 per cent of revenue received from the tourism sector to the state government as announced in the 2019 Budget on Friday.

Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian said the move would encourage efforts by the Johor government to boost revenue from the tourism sector in the state.

"I am confident that the budget this time will be capable of boosting economic growth and give benefits to the people based on the three thrusts of the budget namely implementing institutional reforms, ensuring people’s prosperity and nurturing entrepreneurial culture.

"Although the federal government is facing financial problems due to the imprudent spending and malpractices by the previous government, I notice the tabling of the budget continued to look after the interest of the people especially the lower income group,”he said via a statement, here today.

Meanwhile, Osman thanked the federal government which announced the abolition of the toll for motorcycles on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LinKedua) beginning January 1, next year. — Bernama
