KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to be arrested again today by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), after his statement is taken for several investigations.

A source told Malay Mail that Najib may be kept overnight in lock-up in MACC’s Kuala Lumpur office, before being brought to the Kuala Lumpur High Court tomorrow to separately be charged with a new offence, under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).  

"He might be detained when he goes to give his statement to the authorities later,” said he source.

It is learnt that tomorrow is meant to be Najib’s case management following his charges on July 4, where he was charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one charge under the MACC Act, over RM42 million linked to the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

The source went on to explain that the likelihood of Najib to be arrested and charged again over another offence is high as his statement will be recorded as a accused later.

"All this while before he was charged, Najib gave his statement as a witness.

"Later, MACC will take a ‘caution statement’ from him as an accused before bringing Najib to the court tomorrow morning. In such similar case under MACC, any other individuals will be arrested,” the source said.

Najib is expected to arrive at the Jalan Duta, MACC office later at 5pm.
