KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — The latest information obtained from the biological mother of the girl involved in child marriage in Kelantan revealed that the whole family members are now in Kota Bharu awaiting to be taken back to Thailand.

According to a Women, Family and Community Development Ministry’s statement tonight, its purpose and the length of their stay in Thailand was unclear.

"However, the Thai authorities are expected to bring them back to Malaysia soon,” the statement said.

The marriage between the 11-year-old Thai girl and a 41-year-old local man prompted an outcry among Malaysians since it went viral on social media last week.

The statement also said that a medical check conducted on the girl on July 4 showed no signs of abuse or injury.

It added that the ministry, through the Social Welfare Department, had twice provided counselling session to the girl and her family. — Bernama
