KAJANG, July 8 — PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today she will defend her post as its president in party polls next month.

But she also said that the final decision on the matter rests with PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"There has not been any decision for me to contest or otherwise. As such, I have decided to contest the post.

"But it is still up to the top party leadership. My husband is the ketua umum, a position higher than me, so we must discuss it,” she said.

PKR leaders, such as deputy Youth chief Afif Bahardin, have urged Anwar to contest the party presidency, saying that this will help legitimise the former Permatang Pauh MP’s position when he takes over as the next prime minister.

Dr Wan Azizah also denied the existence of warring factions within the party.

With party elections scheduled for August, Dr Wan Azizah said the party is united and anyone can contest the post of PKR president.

"There is no such thing as camp Azizah or camp Anwar leading up to the party elections. As such, anyone is free to contest the president post,” Dr Wan Azizah said, citing that this is how democracy works.
