MANJUNG, June 2 — A chicken breeder shot another with a shotgun before killing himself with a pistol in Sitiawan last night.

In the 10.50pm incident, Chu Phan Hoo, 62, shot Ling Lu King, 66, four times at a parking spot in front of a restaurant at Kampung Koh, Sitiawan.

Police said they had likely been intoxicated as they were seen imbibing alcohol prior to the shooting.

District Police Chief Muhammad Hanif Othman said the incident was reported by a man who witnessed the shooting.

"Acting on information, a group of policemen managed to cordon off the suspect’s Toyota Fortuner, which was parked near a shop-lot at Jalan Simpang Dua, Sitiawan,” he said.

However, Chu was already dead from a gunshot wound to the head, believed to have been self-inflicted using a pistol he snatched from Ling during their earlier altercation.

Both weapons were recovered from the vehicle that was parked about 4km from where the initial shooting occurred.

Ling initially survived the shots — two to his right leg and two more to his left hand — and was rushed to the Hospital Seri Manjung, but died while receiving treatment at the emergency unit.

Muhammad Hanif also said both deceased had valid permits for the firearms.

"Ling owned the pistol for security purposes, while Chu owned the shotgun to chase out vermin,” he said, adding that both had no criminal records.

He added that police are still determining the motive for the shooting and awaiting results from the post-mortem examination that started at 2.45pm at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh.

The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

A video of the shooting incident began circulating online yesterday and showed Chu shooting at Ling twice and grabbing a pistol from the latter.
