PETALING JAYA, June 1 — Administrators of SJK (C) Tun Tan Siew Sin have expressed disappointment over a Selangor Education Department order for it to cease paid computer classes during school hours.

While saying they will comply, chairman of the school board Tan Sri Lim Hock San said he was unhappy with the matter during a meeting to discuss the order.

The school board said in a statement that students benefited from the computer education scheme to help them gain the necessary skills required for future technological trends, noting that the classes cost just RM10 per month.

The board argued that computer classes were held during school hours to avoid inconveniencing parents.

Furthermore, the computer education scheme has been a part of Chinese primary schools for many years, it said.

The board and parent-teacher association both urged the Education Ministry to review the department’s order, insisting that the classes were necessary to equip students with vital skills and did not affect the number of class periods.
